The Nova Chronicles

I’m excited to announce that my first full-length novel, The Nova Chronicles, published by The Wild Rose Press, will be released on April 15th, 2026. The next 6 weeks will be an exciting but busy time as I prepare!

Any author reading this knows exactly what I’m talking about. Marketing is definitely a necessary evil when it comes to getting yourself out there, and I haven’t met an author who enjoys that part of the journey, or one who has enough money to hire someone else to do it for them.

So, like my dad always said, “Suck it up and get to it!” This is me sucking it up!

The Nova Chronicles started as a serial story on a now-defunct Amazon platform. I had an idea and started it on a whim, and it took off! Then I pitched it to a few publishers and agents, and they were interested, so here it is, one year later, getting traditionally published!

Here is the book blurb:

Born into a world of technological tyranny, seventeen-year-old Nova and her best friend escape into the mountains of Eastern Washington in search of Free America, a mythical outpost of freedom.

Hunted by nefarious forces, she faces betrayal deadly obstacles, and supernatural transformation. At the outpost, secrets await which challenge her understanding of reality.

Nova’s transformation has only just begun.

Chasing August won 1st!

I’m so excited to announce that my post-apocalyptic YA novel won first place at the PNWA Writer’s Conference a few weeks ago!

Writers are their worst critics sometimes, so it sure does feel good when someone else likes your book! I’m really hoping that I’ll be able to find an agent or publisher to help me get August’s story in print!

When I started my writing journey seven years ago, her story was the first one I wrote. But, Covid derailed her release, being that my plot has some definite similiarities (you can call me prophetic!) with the real pandemic that swept through our planet.

So, I decided to drag the manuscript back out and give her a much-needed facelift, and she did well, garnering first! Bottom line: never give up! Chase your dreams, my friends!

A Roman Holiday

Back by popular demand, my next holiday inspired novellete!

It’s the Holiday Season in snowy Leavenworth, Washington, and Saylor, a snowmobile tour guide meets Roman, a weekend warrior with more on his mind than just leisure.

You’ll enjoy this sweet little romp in the mountains! Available in Kindle and Paperback!

A Beacon Amidst Shadows

I’m excited to announce that my short story, The Lighthouse Keepers Daughter, will be included in the lighthouse themed anthology titled: A Beacon Amidst Shadows! It will be an ebook, print, and audio book! (I have included the link below).

This past Spring, I had the pleasure of spending 3 glorious weeks in Italy and was completely inspired by the beautiful country. So when the PNWA announced a short story contest I decided that Italy would be my locale!

Inspired, I dove in and wrote a romance set on the Amalfi coast in the 1960s and submitted it before the deadline. What I failed to do was research the publishing company who sponsored the contest! After the fact, I discovered that romance was not their primary genre, or even their secondary!

So, when I was notified that my story was going to be included in this wonderful eclectic anthology, I was over the moon! If you’d like to read the wonderful collection, written by 13 authors, click on the link below! You won’t be disappointed!

Ciao!

“When I Picture You…”

A poetry journey through grief. After I lost my husband to cancer, poetry helped me get through the grief. It is chronologically organized, as I moved down the path towards acceptance and hope. https://www.amazon.com/When-Picture-You-Journey-Through-ebook/dp/B0CJHS566T/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3DMOURCBQ3N8T&keywords=when+i+picture+you+by+sd+porter&qid=1698178327&sprefix=when+i+pic%2Caps%2C159&sr=8-1

“When I Picture You…”

I happy to announce that my poetry book, “When I Picture You…” by SD Porter is now available on Amazon.

It’s a chronological poetry journey through grief. After the death of my husband, poetry was a way that I could process my feelings, snippet by snippet. Grief is a journey of emotional loss that can’t always be spoken in complete sentences.

Poetry is the language of emotion, when complete thoughts are not always there. So, I found that when I couldn’t think straight, writing poetry helped me to process my feelings. I’m a logical person and for most of us left behind, grief trumps logic.

We all logically know that each and every one of us are going to die, but that logic doesn’t smooth over the pain. The pain is real. And writing poetry gave me somewhere to put some of that grief.

Whether reading or writing it, I hope that my poetry helps you process the losses in your life.
